MISSION
The Washington Metropolitan Area Alumni (WMAA) Chapter of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) has established a scholarship to recognize academic accomplishments and to assist students as they strive to further their education at UMES. The WMAA scholarship is awarded to highly-motivated graduating seniors with an outstanding academic record, strong leadership qualities, and involvement in school and community activities.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Each applicant must:
• be a graduating senior from an accredited high school;
• be a resident of the Washington metropolitan area;
• have a pending application for admission by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore;
• have achieved a cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 & a SAT score in the range of 800 or above; and
• have demonstrated an excellent record of conduct, leadership potential, achievement, civic and community involvement.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Each applicant must submit:
• a completed application;
• an official transcript (transcript must show an official seal or be signed by a school official);
• a typed essay of up to 500 words describing educational and career goals;
• three, typed letters of recommendation—one each from a school counselor, teacher and a community/civic leader;
• a listing of all school, church, community, and/or work activities and highlight any positions held; and
• a recent photograph (preferably a graduation photo).
Application packages must be postmarked by May 15, 2012 and submitted to:
